The European Union could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US against five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as the French president accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans were placed on individuals that were at the heart of efforts to enact laws regulating US-based technology firms.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote the US secretary of state online. “The current administration will not stand for such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
